What to expect when you bring your baby home - podcast

2-minute read

Listen to Dianne Zalitis, midwife, talk to Feed Play Love with Shevonne Hunt about what to expect when you bring your baby home.

Key points

  • Accept help from family and friends.
  • Try to prepare before your baby arrives - have the nursery ready, prepare some meals in advance.
  • It's OK if you have questions - there are a number of organisations available to speak to.
  • Breastfeeding won't be success overnight - both you are and you baby are learning as you go.
  • New mums are going to be sore. Your body needs to recover from having a baby, so take it easy and accept help.
  • You and your baby will have your first check-up at 6 weeks.
  • Don't forget the paperwork. You need to register your baby's birth with Centrelink so you can get Medicare and register their name.
